The Question

So.

My maid, who has been with me a long time, just asked if her daughter - who has been living with us since summer because she's taking up her college studies here in Manila - could use my wi-fi so she could do some school research or something.

I immediately and resolutely said "No."

Does this make me a bad person?

  3. Kinda. I want to know your reason/s first for saying no. But if there's nothing Earth shattering about it, I'd prolly say yes. Hehe.

Kasi naman wi-fi lang yun. Pagbigyan mo na please. Kawawa naman. Hindi naman yata kayo nagkakasabay gumamit.

    1. 1. I didn't think she was going to use internet access exclusively for studying. Also, I had already discovered someone's attempts to use my desktop PC, foiled only by the fact that it's password-protected.

      2. My second thought was that she would hand out the password to my wi-fi to all her friends.

      3. My wi-fi is personal, and I don't like sharing my personal stuff.

Yeah, so, since they already live here with free electricity, water, rice and other stuff - yeah, she can go buy one of those prepaid internet cards.

    2. Thank you, Mugen.

She seems to be a nice kid but those were the first thoughts that raced through my mind, so...I'm gonna go with instinct for this.

    1. PFFFT!

It's not like I said "No" then ordered them to sweep out the chimney or anything.

Also - nice to see you up and about.

  5. Bad? No.

There are limits to what you can freely give.

    1. That was what I was telling myself right afterwards, john stan.

Strange, though, why I still felt I had to get peoples' opinions for something that seemed so...logical.

  10. @ruddie: no you're not.

but an outright "No!"? hongtoroytoroy nomoooon!! lol :p

methinks, an "uhmmm, no." would've been a tad lighter kind of rejection.. :)

    1. Uhhh yeah Nate, I suppose I could've softened the rejection - maybe the terseness of it was what bothered me afterwards.

In hindsight, my rejection was short and snappy because I guess I didn't want to hem and haw and say "I'll think about it" when I knew fully well the answer was indubitably "No."
