Stumbled across this lovely piece from The Happy Time.
For no one in particular. I just like the lyrics and the melody.
And the irony that alas, I remember only too well.
I DON`T REMEMBER YOU.
I DON`T REMEMBER YOU.
I DON`T RECALL
A SINGLE THING
WE USED TO SAY
OR DO.
WHAT DANCING
IN THE PARK?
WHAT LAUGHTER
IN THE DARK?
WHAT SMOLD`RING
FIREPLACE
THAT LIT YOUR FACE
WITH EVERY SPARK?
AND IF I LEFT YOU
ONCE BEFORE,
SOMEHOW I CAN`T RECALL
IT ANYMORE.
THAT WAS ANOTHER GIRL.
YOU`RE NOT AT ALL
LIKE HER.
THOUGH FOR AN INSTANT,
WHEN YOU TOUCHED ME,
I BELIEVED YOU WERE.
BUT I WAS WRONG
THIS MOMENT IS NEW
BECAUSE I CAN`T,
I WON`T,
I DON`T REMEMBER YOU.
THAT WAS ANOTHER TIME,
ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE.
ALTHOUGH YOU BEAR
A FAINT RESEMBLANCE
YOU`RE ANOTHER FACE.
YES, I WAS WRONG
THIS MOMENT IS NEW
BECAUSE I CAN`T,
I WON`T,
I DON`T REMEMBER YOU

ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the real pattern of the story of this play. but when when I listened to this piece I felt a person trying to forget about the bitterness of the past and focus on the present.
ReplyDelete"there must be no past in our today."
Blocking. Emo. Thoughts. Go. Away.
ReplyDelete*phew*
Oh crap. Too late. :S
ReplyDelete@ Nyl : Awp! If it's a rainy Sunday, emo is in the air. Sorry 'bout that :P
ReplyDelete@ Silly_Sili_Kid : There's a lot of denial in the song, which I guess is appropriate because the protagonist, who has returned to his hometown after roaming the world, sings this when he finds himself having difficulty committing to his former sweetheart. Eventually they realize they have different ideas about love and the future and therefore decide to go each other's way again.
i remember the boy, but i don't remember the feeling anymore.
ReplyDelete;)
damn, now you made me remember him again..sigh :(
ReplyDeletei think i know where you are really coming from...
ReplyDelete@ ewik : Coming from, going to, staying put. It's all the same when one is in a holding pattern.
ReplyDelete@ soltero : Remember...who?
@ Ternie : I wish I could say I remember the feeling, but I don't remember which boy anymore. But naaaaaahhhh.
sunday emo day. awwwww.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful song! I wonder why local theater groups don't stage it here. We've always remembered what we've always tried to forget. That's the painful and, at times, bittersweet part. ty for posting this.
ReplyDelete@ SAM : You're welcome. I'm happy you liked it, too. While you can look up the synopsis of The Happy Time on the net, it would be quite something to actually see a live performance, indeed. The theme of bittersweet homecomings, love, and solitude are universal and strike a chord - especially with those of us who've left home to make a life of our own and yet still seek...something.
ReplyDelete@ paci : Which is why I don't like Sundays..
